2:00 PM 2:50 PM Workshop Session - The power of “task sharing” as an antidote to what ails us By any objective measure we are in the midst of a mental health crisis that is not just impacting those in need of help, support and services – it is also impacting the clinical community that serves those in need of help. We will present an argument that this dynamic of too much demand (those in need of mental health care) and not enough supply (clinicians able to provide care) is an unsustainable trajectory that can lead to some challenging outcomes. We’ll also discuss an alternate solution called task shifting or task sharing – an idea that provides a pathway for non-clinical people (and people in general) to play a significant role in helping address this crisis. Workshop Presenter: Timothy Grove
3:00 PM 3:50 PM Workshop Session - Active Listening for Those Disclosing or Experiencing Mental Illness NAMI Wisconsin presents an overview of mental illness and mental health, then provides information on active listening and verbal de-escalation with scenarios, to be used in and outside of the workplace, how to recognize when someone is in crisis and understanding your role as an employer or support network. 3:00 PM 3:50 PM Workshop Session - Compassion Resilience: Honoring the Story of Your Life Compassion resilience is the ability to maintain your physical, emotional, and mental well-being while responding compassionately to the suffering of others. This interactive session will help you to understand the concept of compassion resilience and gain strategies to move through difficult situations. Workshop Presenter: Kimberly Eschenbauch
3:00 PM 3:50 PM Workshop Session - Surviving and thriving in “Syndemic Times” How do we unpack what has happened to us since 2020? Harvard Public Health suggested recently that one way to begin that unpacking is to consider broadening our frame from a pandemic to a syndemic – not one major collective event (Covid-19) but multiple major collective events (climate change, gun violence, inequity, global conflict, isolation, etc.) co-occuring in a synergistic way. This session will break down the syndemic times concept and also introduce some novel ideas that can put us on a pathway to recovery. Workshop Presenter: Timothy Grove
